For more than a decade, Baobab Collection has partnered with a community of Malagasy artisans to create its raffia-wrapped pieces, a collaboration that reflects both artisanal excellence and a long-term commitment to local transmission and empowerment. What began with 25 artisans has grown to 66 women artisans from a rural community near Antananarivo, each contributing her own mastery and sensibility to the work. This partnership supports the economic and cultural development of the Malagasy community while preserving a handmade craft passed down through generations.

Vony is first and foremost a story of patience and handwork. Raffia, a natural fiber native to Madagascar, is crocheted and embroidered entirely by hand around the glass. Each motif is interpreted by the artisan with precision and freedom, which means no two pieces are ever exactly alike. This subtle irregularity is what gives the collection its charm: every candle bears the trace of the woman who made it. Baobab Collection’s creative direction guides the designs, while the artisans bring them to life through the intelligence of the hand and the rhythm of traditional craftsmanship.
